On 15 July 2022, the Deputy Director General in charge of Operations at the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Mr. Daniel Appianin, congratulated the 28 participants of the 2-week YARIS training held in Accra. He stated that the operational centres will be connected to the national YARIS network, as a result of this session. Download the press release.
National Training on YARIS
From 4th to 15th July, 28 participants were trained to use YARIS by a team of four GoGIN+ and Yaounde Architecture trainers (CRESMAO and ICC).
In addition to mastering the main functionalities, participants were involved in exercises of various scenarios including coordination and operations for combating illegal fishing, vessels in difficulty and miscellaneous trafficking.
After this modular training, the operational centres will be connected to the national YARIS network, enabling them to facilitate the exchange of information and the coordination of operations at sea.
Mr. Pieter Smidt Van Gelder, Deputy Head Delegation, Political, Press and Information Section of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, said that the coordination of maritime safety and security was essential to monitor and combat any illegal activity at sea hence their support for the program.
He said the EU would, in collaboration with other countries, continue to support the country because by so doing it would be contributing to a peaceful and safe maritime domain to develop the blue economy that the world is looking for.
